Weight of it All

Life can become so crazy!  There is always something to do, somewhere to go, people to see.  It is never ending.  At some point, you may even find yourself weary.

Weariness isn’t good, but it seems to be a quality of this technology-ridden, “we need it now” world.  When we are employees, parents, brothers, sisters, friends, people in a world that never seems to stop – things can become overwhelming.  We try to do it all and expect to survive.  The fact we are weary indicates that we can’t.

Look at this situation in Moses’ life when he was the one who dealt with ALL the Israelite issues by himself:

“So Moses’ father-in-law said to him,

“The thing that you do is not good. Both you and these people who are with you will surely wear yourselves out. For this thing is too much for you; you are not able to perform it by yourself.

Listen now to my voice; I will give you counsel, and God will be with you: Stand before God for the people, so that you may bring the difficulties to God. And you shall teach them the statutes and the laws, and show them the way in which they must walk and the work they must do.

Moreover you shall select from all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens. And let them judge the people at all times. Then it will be that every great matter they shall bring to you, but every small matter they themselves shall judge.

So it will be easier for you, for they will bear the burden with you. If you do this thing, and God so commands you, then you will be able to endure, and all this people will also go to their place in peace.””

‭‭Exodus‬ ‭18:17-23‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

We all need someone to help us bear our burdens.  We cannot handle it on our own.  Yes, we can cast all our cares on God (1 Peter 5:7).  He can bear them all without any effort.  What a great blessing! But we also need each other.  We need to find people around us to help us and find people we can help.  This is the only way to survive in this world.

I encourage you to pray about the areas you carry on your shoulders…the things that you bear all or most of the burden and let God put people in your life to help you carry these things.  Also, pray that God sends you someone to help carry a burden they can no longer bear.  In doing this, we will become more like Christ.

“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”

‭‭Galatians‬ ‭6:2‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Pursue Peace

There is a song I loved that we sang in church growing up.  My favorite line: “I know the Peacespeaker.  I know Him by name.”  I can still hear it being sung.  It depicts a part of the character of God so perfectly – the Peacespeaker.  The one who knows how to bring peace to this world by just a word, a touch, a breathe…how awesome it is to know Him!

It is awesome because this world is in need of peace!   Life gets crazy quick.  Things happen.  There are very few good news stories.  Sickness, pain, depression, anger and strife surround us.  People go hungry, homeless, are sold into slavery, or feel so alone they decide to take their own lives.  What a world in need of a Savior!

Christ is what the world needs!  Since we are followers of Christ – aren’t we His examples on Earth? He is the Peacespeaker – therefore, shouldn’t we try to emulate Him?

Start a journey with me – a journey to pursue peace.  In everything we do – try to speak & do in a way that brings about connection rather than division.  No more harmful, unnecessary or mean judgement.  I, personally, have had to clean up some messes because I decided to place judgement when it wasn’t my place.

I am starting this journey – a journey towards speaking peace over my life, my family, my friends, my job, my church, my country, and our world.  Join me!!  Let’s show everyone who God is.  Not some judge with a mallet, but a good, kind  Father who loves everyone…even in the midst of our sins.

“Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭34:14‬ ‭NKJV‬

Be blessed my dear friends!

Emotions

I have had a lot of days lately where I am stuck in my emotions.  Do you know what I am talking about?  The times when I just cannot shake the feelings this earthly, human, finite brain keeps rolling around as I try to go about my day.  It is sometimes maddening.  Maybe someone did something, something happened at work, or just life is crazy – regardless of why – it still knocks me off my game.

Being human and being a Child of God sometimes…often…conflicts with each other.  Philippians 4:6-7 says “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”  And then, Galatians 5:22-23 says “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.  Against such there is no law.”

To be the light of the world, we do not get to always act out how we feel.  Our goal on this earth, as His children, is to show people His love.  I vow to do this more, regardless of how I feel today, tomorrow, 10 years from now – will you take this vow with me?

Live fearlessly in Him, dear friends.  Be blessed!

Out of order

Last night, I was added to a group text with some friends. An issue occurred that caused me to receive things out of order. It was crazy and a bit funny. I can only imagine what the others on the text thought when I kept saying “I don’t know what is going on.” I am pretty sure they were LOL-ing.

How many times do we do that with God? He gives us a piece…a glimpse…of what our life is to be like and when things start to look strange, we turn to Him and say “I don’t know what is going on here.” We are trying to make sense of it all when we don’t have all the pieces.

1 Samuel (starting with chapter 15) and 2 Samuel speaks on the life of King David. A young shepherd boy who, out of the blue, was anointed as King. In order to fulfill that role, he had to endure the wilderness and rejection. Do you think if he knew about his time in the wilderness, he would have graciously accepted that role?

We must trust God even when things look out of order. He knows what He is doing. Trust that one day, it will all make sense. The valley of the shadow of death is real, but His grace is even more real.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says: Trust in The Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

Do you know what happened with the group text? It all came in eventually…a bit out of order, but I was able to piece everything together. I pray God gives you the wisdom to do that with your life.

Be blessed.
